Make the Most of the Summer While Working Full Time

Make the Most of the Summer While Working Full Time

The lazy, hazy days of summer are upon us, and that means blockbuster movies, beach trips, and barbecues. But it also means long hours at work with little time to enjoy the sun. If you’re stuck in the office all summer, don’t worry—you can still make the most of it!

We’ve also got a bonus tip for when summer is over, and it’s time to get serious about your career again.

We’ll discuss three simple tips for enjoying yourself, whether you’re part of a full-time remote, in-office, or hybrid workforce.

The lifestyle advice pros at Gentwenty summed up their advice on summer work-play balance recently:

“Do not be afraid to ask for time off — there are yours to take and to use as you please. Just make sure that you are staying within your allocated number of days and that you are not planning to get away in the midst of any deadlines you may have. Break out your bikini swimsuits and enjoy the warm weather!”

Set some goals for yourself—both work and personal

Do a summer bucket list, aka a DIBSE list, or “Do It Before Summer Ends.” Look at your work schedule, and put together a personal schedule that dovetails with it. For example, schedule something really fun after an important work deadline.

Social events are more enjoyable when everyone is ready to blow off some steam. This type of strategic scheduling will help get you motivated for work and play.

Get organized and create a summer schedule

We know, we know, summer is time for having fun and enjoying yourself, not for rigid schedules. But a schedule doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Work and play are two sides of the same coin.

Make your work and play schedules complement each other. For example, schedule something fun that you enjoy, something healthy, like exercise, and something work-related, like improving your skills, for 30 minutes every day. That’s 90 minutes extremely well spent.

Work-life balance can be difficult, especially for remote and hybrid workers. We like to point out that defining boundaries between work and your private life is essential for a healthy lifestyle.

Reconnect with family and friends that you haven’t seen in a while

Use the hazy, lazy days of summer for this vital activity. It’s a lot easier than trying to reconnect around the busy holiday season. Friends and family are the most important relationships we have, so make sure you cultivate them.
